What happens during a session?

When you first come in, Claudia will do a full TCM Consultation.  She will then leave the room to allow you to disrobe to your comfort level, and lie on the bed.

During the treatment, around 15-25 'acupoints' may be selected.  Point selection is customized specific to the individual, not just the condition.  Utmost sterilization practices are used, swabbing the area of skin with alcohol before the needles are inserted.  Needles are ALWAYS one time use only, to ensure safety and hygiene.

After the needles are all inserted, they are left in for approximately 20-30 minutes.  This is your time to relax and even take a nap!  Claudia will ensure you are comfortable with an infrared heat lamp and heated mattress.  She will come in to check on you and do gentle manipulation of the needles.

Other modalities such as auricular therapy, electrical stimulation, fire cupping, massage, or nutritional advice may be used in your treatment, depending on your condition.  At the end of the treatment, Claudia will remove the needles and go over your treatment plan.

How does acupuncture work?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine we say that acupuncture can help free up blockages in our body and allow the movement of "Qi", our vital energy force.

From a scientific perspective, studies have shown that acupuncture can:
  • Increase white blood cell count
  • Improve circulation
  • Reduce inflammation in the body
  • Release endorphins
  • Balance serotonin and noradrenalin
  • Activate different areas of the brain
